Wroxall Primary School are proud to be associated with this excellent teacher training & support programme based on the island.
The Isle of Wight SCITT is the Accredited Provider for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) on the Isle of Wight.
Our mission is to develop teachers committed to excellence. We value active and creative teachers, who have the courage to share their beliefs, skills and understanding in order to develop each and every child’s spiritual, moral, intellectual, social and emotional wellbeing.
Teacher training based wholly on the Isle of Wight has been in operation for twelve years. Firstly, as the graduate teacher programme (GTP), and more recently as a SCITT programmes. Our record of success, as measured by programme evaluations, feedback from schools and the ultimate achievement of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by our trainees, is impressive. The partnership consists of a number of different educational institutions on the Isle of Wight. …
We are a small provider of ITT and pride ourselves on providing a personal and individual approach. In our most recent inspection, Ofsted rated the provision of the partnership as ‘good’. Key strengths identified included the strong reputation of the provision across the Island; the preparation of trainees to meet the challenging needs of the Island schools; the strategic planning and pursuit of excellence by leadership; and ‘the high quality…
The partnership offers a wide range of schools from small village to larger multi faith schools. The way and pace of life is relaxed, surrounded by stunning scenery, but the schools are vibrant and innovative. Facing many challenges, schools are working hard, within supportive communities, to provide the very best education for their children. The island includes areas of high deprivation, rural communities and seasonal employment and so it requires enthusiastic, passionate teachers who can make a difference. We offer a partnership of eleven very different schools, including a special school, to provide a rich and varied teaching experience. Within this setting, we seek to develop individuals as independent, reflective, creative, innovative and collaborative teachers.
We offer a Personal Tutor system including on-going and prompt email and face to face pastoral / tutorial support and personal tutorials throughout the year to review progress and set developmental targets; access to a counselling service; bespoke study / subject knowledge skills support; personalised organisation of school experience placements taking into account individual needs; careers advice including mock interviews and support and feedback on writing job applications; detailed course assignment feedback.
OFSTED rated the primary training as ‘good’ during an inspection of the graduate teacher programme (GTP) and these strengths will be transferred to the new primary SCITT programme.
“Primary central- and school-based training, particularly in phonics, reading, writing and mathematics, is particularly impressive” Ofsted 2013
